The hit of this summer's programme at Regent's Park Open Theatre, The Boy Friend hasn't been performed locally for about 14 years!

Rehearsals are well under way for our 40th Anniversary show: Sandy Wilson's classic 1950s loving pastiche about the life of the young, rich and beautiful at Madame Dubonnet's finishing school for “perfect young ladies” in 1920s Nice. Directed by Sue Kidd, with Music Direction by Graham Barker, and ably assisted by James Church (Assistant Music Director and rehearsal pianist) and Natalie Oatham (Choreographer), the show is taking shape and will certainly be great fun for the entire audience as well as the cast.

In summary, the charming young ladies burst into song at the least provocation, and forbidden boy friends are forever popping through the french windows to make up the numbers. Polly Browne is too rich to be allowed a boy friend. Tony, for whom she falls, turns out to be the Hon Tony Brockhurst, which is very lucky, because Polly thought he was just a delivery boy. There is also some remembrance of romance past and just a little flirting with an older man!

Evening performances of The Boy Friend will start at 7.30pm, with Saturday's matinee performance beginning at 3pm.

With The Boy Friend, we have also continued our tradition of welcoming new performers. Alongside several Grimms' regulars, the cast also includes experienced performers who have recently moved into the area, developing performers building on experiences from only a few shows, and a handful of cast members who are entirely new to the stage. We are pleased to welcome everyone, and are confident that the process of putting on this show will be a valuable experience for all involved.

The Boy Friend replaces our previously announced production of Fiddler on the Roof. After struggling to cast certain key characters, we also decided that the frothy sparkle of The Boy Friend was better suited to our 40th birthday than Fiddler's more harrowing drama.

We are extremely grateful to the Prince Phillips Trust of Windsor & Maidenhead for their kind support of this production.
